Coach Dave Scanlon

Varsity Assistant Coach

Coach Scanlon believes that an athlete’s character is more important than his athletic ability.

Coach Scanlon was born in raised in Pittsburgh where he played high school football and wrestled for four years. He played varsity for three years at offensive guard and inside linebacker, earning all-conference honors at linebacker as a senior. He played rugby his freshman year at Villanova University and made the football team as a walk-on his sophomore year. His junior year, he studied in Ireland where he competed on the University College Galway Judo team.

He graduated from Villanova in 1998 with a degree in English and earned his masters degree in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University in 2005. He taught English and Math and coached football, basketball, and track in Chicago, Seattle, and Maryland for 10 years before marrying his wife Ann and settling in Williamsburg two years ago. This will be his third year working with the Monarchs Football Program.
